Even though Princess Diana is remembered as one of the most beloved royals in the British monarchy, it was no secret to those who were close to her that she was not a big fan of the media attention and the limelight.
Royal author Ingrid Sewald, who penned the book The Queen and Di: The Untold the Story, said in an Express UK report that Princess Diana never quite got used to all the attention focused on her. Diana, even though she spent the better part of her 15-year marriage to Prince Charles attending to her royal duties and social functions, always felt ill at ease with all the socializing, said Sewald in her book.
According to the author, Princess Diana had to suppress a feeling of insecurity and claustrophobia whenever she was thrust into an event and left to attend to an endless parade of dignitaries and high ranking officials.
"I still feel really insecure about going out and meeting people I don't know. After all these years I've never really got over it," Princess Diana reportedly confessed to the author.
The author also revealed Princess Diana's heartbreak during her first meeting with Prince Charles after they separated. The scene was at first-floor drawing room of her apartment at Kensington Palace.
After the formal separation of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was officially announced, the former couple reportedly asked each other why it had to happen.
In a separate report of the same outfit, another royal author, Andrew Morton, supported Sewald's statement and said that, towards the end, Princess Diana grew to detest her life in the limelight but continued to fulfill her duties and obligations to the Palace.
A source reportedly said that Princess Diana, despite her apprehension and unhappiness, felt compelled to keep up appearances because of her loyalty to the royal family.
According to a close friend, Princess Diana was very different privately than she was in public. While people expected her to turn all the ills of the world right magically, she was also wrestling with her inner conflicts as well, just like any average person.
"The public side of her was very different from the private side. They wanted a fairy princess to come and touch them and turn everything into gold. All their worries would be forgotten. Little did they realize that the individual was crucifying herself inside," her close friend shared to the outfit.
Princess Diana died tragically from a car accident in 1997 after a paparazzi reportedly chased their car.
