Game of Thrones Season 8 may have ended, but George R.R. Martin is not yet finished working on the series. The 70-year-old author still has two books to finish, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, along with Game of Thrones Prequel and other spinoff shows. Hence, if there could be one wish that the famed novelist could ask, it is to have more time.
"I need more hours in the day and more days in the week and more months in the year," Martin said in a talk with historian Dan Jones about his book, Fire and Blood, which told the history of House Targaryen, per The Guardian. "Because the time does seem to go very fast."
After the event, he headed to the science-fiction event Worldcon in Dublin. Could the author be busier than this?
A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which inspired the phenomenon Game of Thrones, has yet to be finished. The Winds of Winter is still in the works after eight years since the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, has been released. A Dream of Spring, the final book, is yet to be written.
Aside from these projects, he still has some Dunk and Egg stories, a series of fantasy novellas set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, to do. Although Martin saw it as a "palate cleansers" between the book series, he "fell behind with everything." So, he is now focusing on the things that are in front of him.
However, the success of Game of Thrones gives birth to a lot of movie projects. One of those is the upcoming Game of Thrones Prequel that will be written by Jane Goldman. This story tells the history of Westeros, set 5,000 years before the original show's events.
The show has now finished filming its pilot and is now in the post-production process. He also edits the television version of the Wild Cards anthology series and produces the adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor's Who Fears Death on HBO.
However, Martin still sticks to his original plan about A Song of Ice and Fire. In an interview with The Observer, he said the end of Game of Thrones Season 8 would never affect The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring's ending.
As Martin knew that he couldn't please everybody, he just wanted to satisfy himself with the ending of his novels. The short story writer refused to comment about Game of Thrones Season 8's controversial ending, but he said some fan-made theories are right, while others are wrong. "They'll find out when I finish," he teased.
