Tom Cruise is known for being passionate about making movies and working with top-notch stars, but recently, it has been rumored that he is trying to line up a project with Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, who happens to be a close friend of his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.
According to a report by National Enquirer, Tom has been calling Reese to offer to work on a project together, and have been acting like he was close to her. The source claimed that Cruise was impressed by Witherspoon's talent and learned that Nicole Kidman's popularity received a boost when they both worked on the HBO series Big Little Lies.
The magazine's source further claimed that Tom wanted to work with Reese because he similarly wanted to become more popular among the fans in another genre. According to the magazine's source, Tom wanted to work on another project that was not in the action category to prove that he is more than an action star.
However, Reese was said to be having doubts about a collaboration with Nicole Kidman's ex given her friendship with the actress. While the Water for Elephants star was flattered by Tom's offer, this may not be enough to convince her to push through with a project.
It was reported that several people had warned Reese to stay away from Tom because this could cause friction between her and her friend as it was believed that the ex-couple did not part in the best of terms.
However, Gossip Cop debunked the claims by checking in with a trustworthy insider who is closer to the situation. The source said that Tom has never contacted Reese for a project nor has he any intentions of slowing down on his career trajectory.
After the success of his latest Mission Impossible installment Fallout, Tom is gearing to release the much anticipated Top Gun sequel which also as action-packed as the original. The actor is also gearing to work on back to back sequels of Mission: Impossible.
In an earlier report by Variety, Tom Cruise confirmed through a tweet that the upcoming Mission Impossible sequels are targeting the Summer 2021 and Summer 2022 release windows while filming for the two movies will have a combined schedule to capitalize on the success of Fallout, the best-reviewed and highest-grossing film of the action franchise. Fallout writer and director Christopher McQuarrie confirmed for a return to helm the sequels.
