It's official! BLACKPINK has overtaken PSY as the Kpop act with the most views on youtube as Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose charted a whopping 7.213 billion views for their content.
According to a report by All Kpop, Gangnam Style singer PSY previously held on to the record with 7.209 billion views for his MVs, with 3.4 billion views racked in by Gangnam Style. The worldwide hit was also the first Kpop MV to reach a billion views on the streaming platform. BLACKPINK surpassed the record just this month.
Now, BLACKPINK is poised to achieve the same feat as its song DDU DU DDU DU is on its way to becoming the first Kpop girl group song to reach a billion views. It can be recalled that the MV was the fastest Kpop song to break 600 million views mark on YouTube in January this year.
Apart from DDU DU DDU DU, BLACKPINK's Boombayah and As If Its Your Last also broke the 600 million views milestone with Kill This Love gearing to achieve the same with over 500 million views. BLACKPINK also has two videos that broke the 400 million views mark - Playing with Fire and Whistle.
Jennie's Solo also achieved a landmark view record when she became the only Kpop solo act to break the 350 million views mark on youtube. BLACKPINK's web series BLACKPINK House also averages 3 million views per episode from their loyal fans, while their dance practice videos pull in an astounding stream rate of over 100 million, reported Kworb.
While fans wait for new content from the youtube superstars, BLACKPINK is working on something special for BLINKs all around the world. Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose were confirmed to have worked with Ariana Grande's producer Tommy Brown on a new song recently when he traveled to Korea. This is a promising collaboration because Tommy was the producer behind Ariana Grande's recent hits Thank You, Next and 7 Rings.
It was also confirmed that French artist DJ Snake is also lined up to work with BLACKPINK when he made the announcement himself this May. However, a recent update indicated that the delays in their collaboration were because of their conflicting schedules.
Meanwhile, The Chainsmokers recently posted a meeting with their BLACKPINK at the sidelines of the Japanese a-nation music festival which fueled fans' excitement over a collaboration. The duo of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart have produced international hits like Closer, Roses, Who Do You Love and Kanye, reports indicate.
