It has been over five years since the anime adaptation of Shinobu Ohtaka's famed manga series hit the small screens, but fans are still clamoring for Magi Season 3. Based on the popular tales of Aladdin, Sinbad the Sailor, 1001 Arabian Nights, and Ali Baba, it remains to be seen if the animated series will continue or already ended with Season 2.
The anime series has two seasons and a spinoff. The show's last episode aired in 2014, while the sequel was released in 2016. Several years have passed, there is still no news about Season 3.
For fans, Season 2 didn't feel like the final season of the show. Its story has yet to end, so it may be probable to have Magi Season 3. According to Goboiano, the series still has a lot of potentials to continue that fans are clinging to.
However, by the looks of it, the show's studio, A-1 Pictures, has no plan to bring out the third season. One of the reasons cited why the show would never return is because its source material already ended. Ohtaka previously announced that Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic manga series would end in four chapters.
Since June 2009, Magi had been serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The weekly had 367 chapters at the time it ended.
A-1 Pictures, on the other hand, had produced two 25-episode anime season based on the manga. After that, Lay-duce adapted another Ohtaka-created series, the Adventure of Sinbad, which worked as Magi spinoff series that had 13 episodes.
This move incited fans to create a petition in 2017. The petition starter, Ryan Rokenbrod, said they wanted to see Magi Season 3 and not a spinoff.
Rokebrod claimed he liked Magi from beginning to end. And when the anime ended, the only thing he did was to wait for a new season. However, the closest thing they got was the spinoff, Adventures of Sinbad. Although it was also a good anime series, it wasn't the thing they wanted to see.
"So please if you are reading this please support this petition and if you don't like anime or Manga please just help every Magi fan out," he pleaded. The petition already ended this time, and it only got 312 supporters for over 12 months.
However, the spinoff's release gave fans hope for Magi Season 3. Despite the disappointment, they remain optimistic that there will be a new season in the making after the creators roll out a prequel. Insiders even claim the anime series may be out between 2021 and 2022, so viewers have to keep their eyes open for any updates.
