Absentia season 3 is happening despite lack renewal announcement, thanks to previous reports confirming there will be a new installment. In fact, even though Amazon hasn't officially renewed the series, there's already news about what to expect in the new season.

Lead star Stana Katic previously teased fans via Instagram that Absentia season 3 is happening. During the TCA Summer Press Tour, Amazon didn't address the renewal status of the series but numerous reports have been basically confirming the arrival of the third installment at some point.

It's very likely there were already on-going talks about the new season and they are planning to announce it at the right time later on. Also, the renewal announcement feels like just a formality, since it's clear for fans the new season is happening.

Amazon is likely waiting for new episodes to be filmed before announcing so that it would highlight Katic, as well as other cast members. In addition, there were already reports Absentia season 3 will start filming later this year in Bulgaria.

The official dates and timelines, however, weren't officially revealed, though viewers could reportedly see a new era when the third installment returns. According to CarterMatt, Absentia season 3 will begin with the characters being in a new era, but Emily (Katic) will still be doing demands and requests of the FBI.

A new face will also join the third installment, with previous reports confirming Ross O'Hennessy is joining the series as Macleod. The actor's management confirmed this news on Twitter, saying he'll be the new addition to the series.

No further details were revealed about O'Hennessy's character and whether he'll be a friend or an enemy. It's also unclear if he will be a recurring cast or a series regular. The actor may be familiar for some as he already appeared shows like HBO's Game of Thrones as Lord of Bones, The Bastard Executioner, and Da Vinci's Demons.

Aside from the new cast member, it was also reported that Matthew Le Nevez - plays FBI Special Agent Cal Isaac - will be more apparent in Absentia season 3. The character will reportedly be much more reliant of Emily, but would eventually dig deeper about his personal life. Hence, the relationship between these two will be explored in the upcoming installment.

Other cast members expected to come back in the third season includes Patrick Heusinger (as Special Agent Nick Durand) Cara Theobold (Alice Durand), Neil Jackson (Jack Byrne), Angel Bonanni (Tommy Gibbs) Paul Freeman (Warren Byrne), and Bruno Bichir (Daniel Vega).
