NCIS: New Orleans may be the youngest material from the franchise, but it's not letting itself be the last from the race. Just like its predecessors, a new season from the show is about to arrive this fall.

The fifth season of the series has provided its fans a lot of twists in its plot. A lot has happened in the previous season, which made the fans even more excited for what is to come. This is why CBS is eyeing a successful fall premiere for its material offerings, which includes NCIS: New Orleans.

In the last few moments of the previous season, the crew was able to apprehend the ultimate underground spy network, Apollyon. While the journey was at an all-time rough, the department still managed in the end.

But long before the closing minutes of the finale, Pride's family was introduced. His mom and half-brother appeared with seemingly unfortunate news. As it revealed, Pride's mother, who is played by Joanna Cassidy, has a mental illness.

The same dynamic is also interjected into Christopher LaSalle's arc. And with his brother's apparent challenges, he will help him to pull through no matter what happens.

According to The Digital Weekly, these introductions to Pride's and LaSalle's personal lives are huge tell that NCIS: New Orleans Season 6 will shift its focus from the dangers of the criminal world to the personal lives of the characters.

Also, it has been revealed that their challenges in the new season will be far different from the previous seasons. And this time, it will be much more challenging and difficult considering that the lives of their families are at stake.

This surprising shift of dynamic and theme caught the attention of the fans. Even so, it did not raise that many eyebrows among the fandom. But still, many critics tend to question the decisions made by the writers and producers.

One factor being looked up regarding the matter is because there was a huge change that happened in terms of the showrunner. As per Meaww, Brad Kern was replaced by Christopher Silber as the showrunner for NCIS: New Orleans Season 6. And this is because of the reported "misconduct" allegations that circulated previously.

While this could be a factor to the show's upcoming course, many are still hopeful that the new season will still feature its central theme, which is the department, NCIS.

NCIS: New Orleans Season 6 will premiere on September 24, on CBS.
