It has been long hinted that Ziva is alive. When her body was not recovered from the apparent mortar attack back in NCIS Season 16, many fans have already speculated that she might return. And without a doubt, she did.
On the finale of the previous season, she surprised Gibbs in his basement with the words, you're in danger. Although Gibbs, obviously, wanted to know everything about her supposed death, she cut him through and told him that there's no time for pleasantries.
The screen went black and it became one of the most surprising cliffhangers in the history of television series. But today, a new trailer for NCIS Season 17 has already shown what happened after.
Shots were fired and it seemed that someone is really after them. This is when Ziva told Gibbs that someone wants her dead and now him too.
She named that "someone" as Sahar. While she was not depicted on the trailer, TV Line reported that she will be played by Mouzam Makkar.
The trailer continued to show that the two are on the run. And as they try to hide from the ones who are running after them, everyone back at the department learned that Gibbs is with Ziva at the moment.
The emotions and reactions of the characters are obviously understandable. Some of them looked shocked and surprised, others, however, became too emotional upon learning the truth. This, of course, is much more apparent to Ziva's family.
Aside from the trailer, no other information has been shared about her return. For all the reports know is that Ziva will be seen again in two more episodes of NCIS Season 17 after the premiere.
According to E!, Ziva's return and how she did it was all Cote de Pablo's idea. Also, it has been revealed that the direction of her character on the plot was also partly pitched by Cote herself.
But even though her character is truly back, it has not been disclosed if she will stay for good. Nevertheless, the fans are pretty convinced that she will no longer return again after appearing for two new more episodes of the season.
Based on the general reception, Gibbs, along with the whole crew, will try to resolve the whole matter at hand. And when everything's all set, she might return to her family and leave the department for good.
It is worth noting though that the latter points are just speculations made by the fandom. So, things will surely clear out once NCIS Season 17 premieres on September 24, on CBS.
