After an intense Season 1 finale, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) returns in The Rookie Season 2 safe and sound. ABC has dropped the show's new trailer, teasing an action-packed second season as Nolan embarks in more dangerous scenarios.

Season 2 will exactly pick up from where the previous season finale left off where the LAPD responded to the threat of a weaponized virus. In the teaser, Nolan and the rest of the cast are seen in danger as they face new risks and threats. Entertainment Weekly also dropped a series of cast member photos, showing everyone in their full LAPD glory.

In The Rookie Season 2, Nolan will be in his six months in his career as a cop. Although he's the oldest LAPD rookie, he uses his life experiences, sense of humor, and determination to keep up with everyone, who is 20 years younger than him. The new season will begin with the second half of his rookie year. Here, he is going to face more challenges, romantic relationships, and deadly criminals as he decides what kind of cop he wants to be.

Meanwhile, Afton Williamson, who played Talia Bishop, was not seen on the cast portraits after she decided to leave the show earlier this summer. The 34-year-old star claimed there were racial discrimination, bullying, and other issues on set that are still under investigation.

However, the rest of the Season 1's primary cast will return, including Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Grey, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, and Titus Makin as Jackson West, and Melissa O'Neill as Lucy Chen. They are all ready to go on duty again to fight the terrorists that are threatening the city of Los Angeles.

In an interview with TV Insider, Fillion, Jones, Diaz, O'Neil, Winter, and Makin, along with the showrunner Alexi Hawley talked about The Rookie Season 2 at the recent San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The series stars gave everyone a glimpse of what is happening in the second season by dropping some major details about the show.

"I learned what our strengths are, which is that we really do the unexpected and character work masquerading as a cop show," Hawley said about the things they learned from the previous season. "The more we can dig into what's going on behind the badge while we're having fun outside, that'd be great."

Fillion, on the other hand, added they were enjoying the unexpected, saying it was fantastic that they didn't have to repeat any moves. The Rookie Season 2 is set to be out on Sunday, Sept. 29, on ABC.
