A lot is about to happen in The Resident Season 3 with the coming of Morris Chestnut. In the middle of the worsening corruption in the world of healthcare, something good is about to happen with the return of Dr. AJ Austin's (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) biological dad.

Grier will play the recurring role of Lamar Broome, AJ's father. TVLine described the character as a "larger-than-life" businessman with a "prideful manner and substantial ego" unlike his son, who he gave up for adoption 35 years ago.

However, when he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, Lamar desperately wanted to be reconnected with AJ. Now that he's sick, Lamar wanted to feel some love and connection with AJ that he lacked from the children that he raised.

In an interview, co-creator Amy Holden Jones revealed at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour that The Resident Season 3 would expand fans' understanding of people's families. In the new season, viewers are about to meet the Raptor's biological and adoptive families, and Mina (Shaunette Renée Wilson) will show her support for him at that time.

"Given that Conrad had an experience with his father last season, Conrad has some advice to offer the Raptor," Matt Czuchry added about his character. "We'll see them bond in a way they haven't before."

Meanwhile, aside from Grier, Chestnut will also make his way to The Resident Season 3, per ComingSoon. As the Red Rock Mountain Medical will take over Chastain Memorial Hospital, the doctors will be facing the "biggest corrupting influence of money in healthcare." The courageous medical professionals would risk their future and career to stop the practice of "profit over patients" from happening.

From here, Chestnut, who will play the role of Dr. Barrett Cain, will enter the scene. Cain is an intimidating neurosurgeon who believes he's a "superman physician" hired by Red Rock Medical to help turn Chastain's finances. He is said to be charming when the situation needs him to be, but ruthless when it comes to his desire for money and power.

Cain can pose revenge on anyone who opposes his plans to put the good doctors at Chastain in danger. The Resident Season 3 is set to be out on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. on Fox. Its new episodes can also be seen on Fox Now and Hulu, while the previous seasons are now available on the latter streaming service.
