In less than three weeks, The Conners Season 2 will finally premiere. While new installments could mean new storylines and plots, the upcoming season of Roseanne's spin-off will be different in terms of characters' placements.
As it happens, series star, Maya Lynne Robinson will exit the show upon the arrival of the new season. This is because Robinson has landed a full-time "gig" with CBS for the upcoming sitcom titled, The Unicorn.
Showrunner, Bruce Helford, revealed in an interview with TV Line that Geena would be missed in the second season of the show. And while replacing the actress could be the right move for the series, they instead chose to "write" the character's exit in the plot.
It has been revealed that Geena, who is previously established as a 2nd Lieutenant in the army, will be "redeployed" to Afghanistan. Accordingly, her immediate family will be facing the aftermath of her redeployment. And this means that DJ will need all the help from his family to raise their daughter, Mary.
It's pretty clear how The Conners Season 2 will feature Geena, DJ, and Mary once it arrives on the network. And per the showrunner, this is the most fitting movements for the characters.
Although replacing the actress has become one of the options, they've put into consideration the fact that it will be the second time replacing the actress for Geena's character. Maya Lynne Robinson is the second actress who played the role. She replaced Xosha Roquemore when The Conners first arrived on ABC.
Aside from Geena's redeployment, the upcoming season of the show will also feature other changes and challenges for the family. And per Pop Culture, the first episode will already set the tone for the season and how things could get more difficult for everyone.
The recently released teasers and trailers featured the focal point of the first episode. It seems that Becky's pregnancy will be the opener of the new season. And it has been uncovered that she will give birth ahead of her due date.
Darlene's actress, Sara Gilbert, revealed in an interview with Parade that the new season would also continue to feature Darlene's previous struggles with two guys, as well as the "drama" between her and her daughter. It is also somehow uncovered that Jackie will continue to find her way in life just like what she did in the pilot run.
The Conners Season 2 will premiere on September 24, on ABC.
