If you're curious to know why former One Direction member Harry Styles rejected the role of Prince Eric in Disney's Live-Action version of The Little Mermaid, the singer has admitted that he did consider appearing in the film because he was a fan of the animated movie.
In a report by People, Harry Styles revealed that The Little Mermaid offer came at a wrong time, rendering him unable to say yes to the project.
The former One Direction singer said he is currently more focused on his music nowadays and wants to concentrate on establishing himself as a solo artist. He expressed regret at being unable to join the Disney project but assured fans that the cast and crew would do an amazing job with the live-action adaptation.
"I want to put music out and focus on that for a while. But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it's going to be great," he said.
Harry is reportedly very excited about his new music because it's going to be a representation of his artistry. According to rock legend Stevie Nicks, the new music will be unlike his first album and will be very different from anything he has done as One Direction.
"It's pure Harry, as Harry would say. He's made a very different record, and it's spectacular, " the rock legend said.
Many fans expressed disappointment at Harry Styles' decision after he showed great promise in his first acting role in Christopher Nolan's war movie Dunkirk where he played opposite top-notch actors Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Brannagh and Cillian Murphy.
A review from Elle Magazine said that for his first time in a big movie, Harry Styles showed great promise in the acting field and delivered on his role.
"Styles is essentially very good at looking cold, scared, sad and a bit angry, yet you somehow still come away feeling like he's successfully transitioned from boyband singer to bonafide actor," reviewer Katie O'Malley said.
Disney earlier announced that they cast Halle Bailey for the role of Ariel which polarized fans of the franchise. The cast is shaping up to be a powerhouse with Akwafina added to the cast as Scuttle the Seagull. Jacob Tremblay has also been cast as Flounder while Melissa McCarthy is rumored to take on the role of the villain Ursula, Marie Claire reported.
Mary Poppins Returns star, and Broadway superstar Lin Manuel Miranda has been tapped to work on the soundtrack while Javier Barden is also in talks to play the role of King Triton.
