The second Game of Thrones Prequel is now in the works at HBO, although the network has yet to comment about the new project. Multiple reports and sources reveal the premium cable channel is near a deal to order for a pilot, just like the first spinoff series led by Naomi Watts. Will the franchise's original showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss get involved?

Benioff and Weiss would remain as executive producers to all things that are related to the show, including the new talked-about prequel. However, they would not be actively involved in any of the series after they left HBO and with their new lucrative deal with Netflix, per the Hollywood Reporter.

According to reports, the new Game of Thrones Prequel is set 300 years before the events of the original series. It will chronicle the beginning of the end of the House Targaryen. Colony screenwriter Ryan Condal and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin will write its script.

Rumors have it it will be based on Martin's Fire & Blood, which tells the history of House Targaryen. The Game of Thrones companion book begins with the story of the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, who created the Iron Throne.

It will also account the generations of Targaryens that fought hard to stay on the seat that leads to a civil war that almost tears the dynasty apart. The Targaryens are known for being the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington), who both led the flagship series.

The new Game of Thrones Prequel is not a part of the previously reported five spinoff series that are also in the works at HBO since 2017. It is a new take on the world that Bryan Cogman developed. He confirmed earlier this year the prequel he was working on was not moving forward.

HBO initially announced there would be four prequel series that are in the works. After a few months, the network quietly added a fifth one. Three of those are still actively in development. But, Variety noted only one is moving forward to date, featuring the lead star Watts in an unrevealed role yet.

The first Game of Thrones Prequel, which bears the tentative title Bloodmoon, is now in the post-production process. It is said to chronicle Westeros' darkest hour after the Age of Heroes ended. Martin referred to the show as The Long Night, about the winter that lasted a generation that widespread famine and terror. It is set to explore the origins of the White Walkers, the mysteries of Essos, and the Starks of legend.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys previously said he would not work on any sequel when Game of Thrones Season 8 ended. For now, it remains to be seen what will happen in the second Game of Thrones Prequel.
