Police are now looking to summon back former YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk and former BIGBANG member Seungri to continue questioning on illegal gambling charges after the Chuseok holiday.
It can be recalled that, last August, the former YG honchos were booked by police on suspicions of illegal gambling abroad. Seungri and Yang Hyun Suk are being investigated for using hwangchigi, which translates unlawful foreign exchange transactions. This could land the pair with additional charges of violating the Foreign Exchange Act, Soompi reported.
In a recent update, police have announced that they will be resuming investigation on the illegal gambling charges against Yang Hyun Suk and Seungri as they consolidate more data and evidence to summon them back for questioning.
According to a report by All Kpop, both personalities will be questioned on how the hwangchigi was committed to determine the extent of the culpability of the two suspects on the charges. Korean authorities have already reached out to the U.S. Treasury to secure data on the financial accounts of YG's subsidiary in the United Staes.
Addressing the media at a press conference in National Police Agency building, authorities said: "We need time to figure out how they mobilized and routed the gambling funds. We need to investigate for one to two more weeks and reschedule their attendance as one has denied and the other has admitted to some of the charges during the first investigation."
Upon booking Seungri and Yang Hyun Suk last month, police said they are not yet going to release information about the charges as there is a strong possibility that this could compromise the evidence on the case.
Apart from illegal gambling charges, Yang Hyun Suk is also going to be questioned by police on his involvement in mediating prostitution before the statute of limitations expires on the case early next month. It was earlier reported that there were conflicting testimonies on the issue, so police are still investigating the matter.
The former YG Entertainment CEO is also expected to be summoned on former IKON leader B.I's drug case, which happened in 2016. B.I has, recently, been booked as a suspect to admitting some suspicions on drug purchase after 14 hours of questioning by police.
Yang Hyun Suk is also a subject of an investigation after it was alleged that he threatened a former YG trainee who had information on B.I's alleged attempt to purchase marijuana in 2016.
