There is little doubt that Avatar 2 is one of the highly anticipated films of 2021 yet the sequel is still shrouded in secret. For instance, there hasn't been any updates about the movie since it began filming back in 2017. Nevertheless, fans already have speculations about what will happen in the follow-up to James Cameron's billion-dollar box office hit. For one, there are several theories about who Sigourney Weaver will play in the film.
In 2009's Avatar, Sigourney Weaver portrayed Dr. Grace Augustine, the head of the Avatar Program, who specializes in exobiology. Although Grace tried to keep the peace between the humans and the Na'vi, her efforts ultimately failed as the humans decided to destroy Hometree. Jake Sully attempted to get the clan to transfer Grace into her avatar, but she died before the transfer was completed. So, how is Weaver going to return in Avatar 2?
Although her role in the sequel is still undisclosed, Sigourney Weaver herself confirmed that she would not be playing Dr. Grace Agustine in Avatar 2. The Alien star stated that she would portray a completely different character next year. Could this mean that Grace had a twin just like Jake Sully? Or will Weaver's appearances all be connected to flashback scenes?
It seems unlikely that the second Avatar movie will introduce Grace's twin, but there is a huge possibility that Sigourney Weaver's character is a result of what happened to Grace in the first film. After all, Grace ended up becoming a part of the Tree of Souls, which means that she could eventually be reborn as a new character. Interestingly, Grace might no longer be human but a possible member of a different clan of the Na'vi.
Sigourney Weaver had previously revealed that she had to learn free-diving and scuba diving for Avatar 2. This could mean that her character is connected to a new clan that will be introduced in the sequel. The Meykatina is a reef-dwelling clan who will need to work with Jake and Neytiri's clan in the new movie. Could one of their members bear a striking resemblance to Grace Augustine's avatar?
It would be interesting to see Grace Augustine resurrected on Pandora since it would confirm how the planet takes and gives back energy. However, it is important to point out that these are all based on theory. So, it's best to take it with a grain of salt.
