Plagiarism is a pretty big deal in Korea, and artists have commonly come under fire for copying or borrowing ideas from other celebrities under the watchful eye of fans. Promoting unknown brands that are too similar to well-known luxury items is equated as the same thing. F(x) Luna is, currently, the subject of criticism after netizens accused her of selling beauty products that were copied from luxury brands.
It can be recalled that f(X) Luna, recently, announced her departure from SM Entertainment to focus on her showroom studio Luna Room 6, where she sells beauty products like the Fascinar. The artist took to Instagram to invite fans to order the product by bulk, Koreaboo reported.
However, netizens are criticizing Luna for using her celebrity status to compel fans in buying unknown brands of beauty products. Many have expressed doubt over its legitimacy since there were no internet searches available for the products that f(x) Luna was promoting.
Many of her fans accused f(x) Luna of selling knockoff items that were copied from luxury brands.
"Your fans must be sad.. It's good to be free and do what you love after leaving SM but you should be working hard on legitimate work. You should've just opened up an official shopping mall instead. The product isn't even properly verified and the case is clearly a knockoff of a luxury brand, but you're asking people to help you sell it. Are you for real?" a netizen said.
Some of the fans, who are left comments on her post, expressed sadness that, instead of focusing on her music career now that she has left SM Entertainment, Luna is using her energies to promote a no-name brand of cosmetics.
It was, recently, reported that f(x) Luna did not renew her contract with SM Entertainment, following in the lead of her fellow f(X) member Amber Liu. Amber signed with Steel Wool Entertainment to focus on bringing her music to the United States. It is said that Amber will be doing a mixture of Kpop, rap and explore other genres for a new sound, Billboard reported.
"I think I'm at a point personally where I'm comfortable with myself now, and I understand that I'm not perfect, but I can only be the best I can be," Amber said.
Another f(X) member Victoria Song, whose contract expired at the same time as Luna, is reportedly leaving SM Entertainment as well. This comes as no surprise since the last song f(x) released as a group was All Mine in 2016.
