ABC has unveiled the official poster of Grey's Anatomy Season 16, and it teased a major change is about to happen. The key art revealed Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) new look, as she is about to welcome a new life. But, the show is said to feature the consequences of her actions.
Meredith looks stunning in her all-black formal attire. However, she is in a few crossroads. The poster, too, revealed the new tagline: "Where do we go from here?"
The tagline is a nod to the previous season's evens, where Meredith got fired from Grey Sloan Memorial for insurance fraud. She also turned herself to the authorities to save her boyfriend, Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti). By the looks of it, Meredith has a lot of issues to face in the new season, and there is no way that it will end soon.
Executive producer Krista Vernoff revealed, via E! News, Meredith's problems will not wrap up in just one episode. But, it will span in Grey's Anatomy Season 16. "And we're sort of setting our foot forward on the new path for the season in the premiere, but the ramifications of last season play through this season," she explained.
She even hinted the upcoming installment would be all about consequences. Season 15 was the season of love, but the end of it seemed to be the conclusion of romantic comedy. People didn't get to see what happened after the happily ever after, and Season 16 might be the fallout of the previous season.
After the "fun, dramatic, romantic" thing, there would be consequences, and the early part of Grey's Anatomy Season 16 would be about ramifications. Vernoff added Meredith and DeLuca's love is still in the early stage, but there are now experiencing the drama, and it will test their new relationship.
Digital Spy reported Grey's Anatomy Season 16 would pick up where the previous season left off to resolve some of the cliffhangers. To recall, Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) were fired from their jobs, too, and Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) went missing.
However, the premiere episode will also feature a time jump, while succeeding episodes will tackle the broken medical system, which is a part of the consequences of Meredith's actions. Richard, too, will get his storyline in his episode and Gemma (Jasmine Guy) will return.
Vernoff also teased she is looking into bringing a major character from the past, but, she didn't reveal who would it be. Grey's Anatomy Season 16 is set to be out on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
