This Is Us Season 4 has returned, and Episode 1 was packed with new characters and storylines. For starter, Kevin's possible future wife and Kate and Toby's adult son were introduced.
Once Upon a Time actress Jennifer Morrison has been introduced as Cassidy Sharp. Based on how the first episode went through, it looks like she and Kevin will get connected very soon. Elsewhere, Jack Damon (Blake Stadnik) is packing arena for a concert.
In the recent This Is Us Season 4 episode, viewers have seen a little bit of Cassidy's backstory as a Marine officer in the Middle East. She is working with a local informant to identify a bomb maker, but when the terrorist got killed by a drone strike along with eight civilians, it took a toll on Cassidy.
She gets discharged and returns home to a hero's welcome, but Cassidy suffers from PTSD and alcoholism. She and her husband, Ryan (Nick Wechsler), split because of her drinking problem.
During Cassidy's group session at the Veterans' Office, someone from the outside throws a chair through the window. It was later revealed that it is Nicky (Griffin Dunne) who caused the ruckus. In California, Kevin (Justin Hartley) receives a call that his Uncle Nicky needs bail money.
Kevin is expected to rescue Nicky once again, and he might meet his future wife in the process. It can be recalled that the flash-forward scene in Season 3 finale, it was revealed that Kevin has a son, but his wife was not seen in the episode.
Kevin bailing out his father's brother from jail might be also the reason why Nicky was seen at the latter's home in Season 3 finale. Nicky was seen standing at Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) bedside when Randall (Sterling K. Brown) walked into the room to talk to his mother who seems not to remember him.
Nicky will most likely develop a bond with Cassidy at the VA while both of them recover from alcoholism. Kevin might join them since he was also seen in Season 3 finale breaking his sobriety.
This Is Us Season 4 Episode 1 also featured the first meeting of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and his BFF, Miguel (Jon Huertas), as well as Papa Pearson's first meeting with Rebecca's parents. Moreover, viewers got a good amount of scenes from Kate and Toby's adult son, Jack Damon.
Towards the end of the episode, it was revealed that baby Damon is blind. Flash forward to the future, Jack Damon and his girlfriend, Lucy (Auden Thornton), are seen walking in a hallway that leads to the stage of an arena where he is about to perform in a sold-out concert.
Meanwhile, the upcoming This Is Us Season 4 Episode 2 will feature Jack and Rebecca taking the Big Three to the pool where young Kevin and Randall will be having a disagreement. In the teaser, Randall is seen confronting Kevin. It looks like Kevin did something that embarrassed Randall in front of the latter's friends.
In the present day, Randall, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), and their family are starting to adjust to life in Philadelphia. This Is Us Season 4 airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
