There are reports the Royal family is not close to each other. In fact, Prince Philip is said to be distant with one of his sons, Prince Charles. Reemerging photos even prove the claim when they are seen apart from each other. Despite the reserved relationship they have, by the looks of it, they maintain to have a good bond.
A throwback photo on Instagram shared a rare glimpse to the life of the Royal family back in the day. Here, Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Charles are all distant from each other. Does this prove they have been detached from each other since the very start? They, too, have different worlds as they are doing different things caught in camera.
In the snap, Prince Philip was sitting on a chair while seemed to be talking to his youngest son, Prince Edward. In another seat, Queen Elizabeth was also seated on the armrest while hands were clasped. She seemed to be looking at nowhere. Beside her is Princess Anne, who was bowed down and reading a book.
In the distance, Prince Charles was seated in front of the fireplace and seemed to be playing with Prince Andrew, who was holding and staring at a flower in his hand. It couldn't be denied that the heir to the throne had a serious look on his face.
Although the Royal snap seemed candid, it also looked like it was staged. Hence, it is still unknown if they have a distant relationship with each other and have their worlds when they are together.
However, according to Express, Prince Charles has a not-so-close relationship with Prince Philip. The royal commentator, Penny Junor, claimed in his 2005 book, The Firm, the Duke of Edinburgh used to bully the Prince of Wales when he was a young boy, making him scared of his dad.
The royal biographer also revealed Prince Philip had a "no-nonsense" approach when it came to parenting that had a devastating impact on Prince Charles, given that he was a sensitive child. Compared to the heir, who was a timid kid who loved the arts more, Queen Elizabeth's husband was a "boisterous boy" who liked the outdoors.
They have different, contrasting personalities, resulting in a distant relationship until today. Junor also added Prince Philip didn't show much affection toward Prince Charles.
"The Duke of Edinburgh was and is a bully, and was sparing in his affection," he claimed. He was described to be rough to Princes William and Harry's father and often put him to tears when he was a boy. Apparently, Prince Philip and Prince Charles still have this kind of relationship up to this day.
