The fifth and final season of The Affair is now five episodes deep. With only six episodes remaining before the series concludes, Joanie is now trying to find the hard facts behind her mother's mysterious demise.
The previous episodes have been jumping from one timeline to another. But, the case will be different now as the plot centers on the future while Joanie searches for the truths of the past.
According to TV Line, The Affair Season 5 Episode 6 will see Joanie getting a hold of the police reports that followed Allison's death. Everyone in Montauk believes that Allison committed suicide. With her psychiatric evaluation files, this can be easily justified. Not to mention, the autopsy showed that she drown after seemingly jumping off to the body of water.
While the case was resolved many years ago because of the evidence, Joanie feels that there is more to the story. Upon looking at the files, she is learning more details about her mother.
Cartermatt reiterates that Ben, a former love-interest of Allison, surprisingly killed her as seen in the finale of The Affair Season 4. It looks like Joanie is already near to finding this out. Even so, this might not happen yet in the upcoming episode since there is a lot more to discover. Besides, Joanie and EJ are just about to start this journey.
Fans are speculating that the files will tell Joanie that her mother committed suicide. At first, she will try to accept this as previewed in the official trailer of The Affair Season 5 Episode 6. However, her curiosity will be the one that will ignite her search for the truth.
In her present timeline, Cole is already dead while Noah remains "MIA." If she learns the truth about Ben's crimes, it is unclear what will happen then as no one knows yet if Ben is still alive in this timeline.
Whatever the case though, finding the truth for Joanie will be bittersweet as Allison's justice might not be fully carried out, if ever Ben is no longer around. Nevertheless, this will give Joanie peace of mind and soul upon learning that Allison was killed and did not commit suicide despite all trials and hardships of her life.
The Affair Season 5 Episode 6 will air on September 29, on Showtime.
