Will Hallmark Channel renew Chesapeake Shores season 5 or not? That's one of the major questions following the recently aired season 4 finale. We've got some news about the Meghan Ory and Jesse Metcalfe-led drama series, and the likelihood of the fifth installment.
Right now, Hallmark Channel hasn't officially renewed Chesapeake Shores season 5. The future of the show remains unclear at the moment, especially since the fourth season only had six episodes -- making the likelihood of the fifth season questionable.
While the show does not have a wide audience like When Calls the Heart, Chesapeake Shores still does have some loyal viewers who are eager to find out what will happen next. The fourth installment has drawn a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 1.7 million live viewers per week.
The series' demo is down this year. But, the good news is that the show improved in the total viewers. There are a lot of shows are dropping numbers over the past few years. So, the stability of Chesapeake Shores is still encouraging; even without mentioning some of the DVR or streaming that the show is receiving.
Loyal viewers are still hoping there will be Chesapeake Shore season 5. However, it would probably have just a handful of episodes, just like the fourth installment. That's still fine for fans, as long as they'll be seeing what would happen in the future of the series.
In addition, during a Facebook Live chat last week with Barbara Niven (Megan O'Brien) and Diane Ladd (Nell O'Brien), Executive Vice President of Programming and Network Program Publicity at Crown Media Family Networks Michelle Vicary said that things were looking for the renewal of Chesapeake Shores season 5.
"We have more viewers watching all together than we had last season, so the show is building. It's going places," Vicary said in the video.
Meanwhile, even though the fate of Chesapeake Shores season 5 is unclear, the spinoff movie with the O'Brien sisters is still in development. In the film, Ory, Emilie Ullerup and Laci Mailey will reprise their roles from the series as Abby, Bree, and Jess, respectively.
While there's no official release date for the spinoff movie, the synopsis revealed the O'Brien sisters will be in Rome for the wedding of a childhood friend. They'll soon discover the wedding plans are in complete chaos and the bride may have a case of pre-wedding jitters as she's gone missing. Abby, Bree, and Jess will find the bride to create a happily ever after.
