It's been nearly six years since viewers last saw the Freemans on The Boondocks. After the conclusion of Season 4, nothing was heard from the heads and bosses of the show. So, when main cast member John Witherspoon revealed recently that the show would return, fans have rejoiced theorizing that The Boondocks Season 5 will arrive soon.

The Boondocks' return has been confirmed shortly after the interview. However, it will not continue with a new season on the same platform.

Deadline,  recently, released the new details about the show's return. As it happens, the upcoming installments of The Boondocks will be a revival of the original series. This time, it will air on HBO Max.

The network commissioned two "reimagined" seasons from the show. Additionally, it will come with a 50-minute special episode that will premiere in 2020. While no specific date has been revealed yet, fans are just happy to know that The Freemans will be up again for a new life adventure in a whole new cultural and political environment.

According to TV Line, HBO Max will also house the original courses of the show from Seasons 1 to 4. So, once the platform launches in the spring of 2020, clients will be able to stream all 55 episodes of the previous seasons.

Aaron McGruder will also return as the showrunner and executive producer of the new and revived The Boondocks. As per his statements, revisiting the world of the Freemans and doing it all over again today is a "unique" opportunity. Given that times have drastically changed, the revival will surely feature more sparks of discussion in terms of political and cultural indifferences.

The animation will also be revolutionized. So, it is expected that there will be a whole new look on the Freemans once the series starts to drop new episodes.

The Boondocks reboot will have 12 episodes per season. As for its plot, it will follow the Freemans, which mainly focuses on Granddad, Huey, and Riley, as they move on to an "idyllic" suburban community in Maryland.

Upon moving to the community, they will learn that Uncle Ruckus has taken over the area utilizing his "neo-fascist regime." Hence, it will be the life of the Freemans "under Uncle Ruckus," per The Hollywood Reporter.

Aaron McGruder has teased the better part of the premise in his previous comic strip released earlier this year. It basically foreshadowed the pilot season of the revival. If fans would love a few hints and clues about the plot, the comic strip is a good material source to spend time on while waiting for the show's arrival.
