The future of Gomorrah Season 5 is still unclear. No one knows if the show will still return on Sky Italia. But, even if there are already talks of a new season, no confirmation has been given out to the public.
Sadly, many are theorizing that the fifth season may no longer happen. This is, probably, because of the bad criticisms that the show has received from the Naples authorities.
Just before Season 4 concluded its course, an interview with the Naples mayor, Luigi de Magistris, became the talk of the town. He shared on Italian radio that the hit series, Gomorrah, is the one to be blamed for the increasing numbers of "violent crimes" in Naples.
According to The Local Italy, the city mayor has "no doubts" about it. He even contended that every time Gomorrah airs on small screens, the crime "spikes" on the streets of the city.
Luigi de Magistris is the current "left-leaning" mayor who has been elected eight years ago. Per his statements, Naples has been long-plagued by crimes, which only strengthens its core because of the series. He even added that the show, that is based on the real-life Italian mafia gang, Camorra, is "corroding" the brains and minds of the young people.
Other reports also claim that the Naples mayor continues his advocacy of eliminating the show for good on various social media platforms. Based on the said posts, it seemingly appears that Luigi de Magistris is charging his audience to not "underestimate" the "fascinating symbolism" of evil that the show depicts.
No response has been heard from the Naples-born novelist, Roberto Saviano, and series heads. No confirmation has been made if these reviews from the authorities made an impact on the show's future.
Even so, fans are convinced that, if Gomorrah Season 5 won't happen, then, it will probably have something to do with the mayor's assertions.
While everyone is still in the waiting game toward the show's future movements, a prequel film is about to premiere. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series star, Marco D'Amore, who plays Ciro's lead role, will reprise his role in the upcoming prequel film titled, L'Immortale.
Reports are claiming that the film will take place after the events of Gomorrah Season 3 and bridge into the events of Seasons 4 and 5. Therefore, many are fixated with the idea that Season 5 will arrive on the network after the film premieres.
It is worth noting that Ciro died in the finale of Season 3. Hence, it is likely that L'Immortale and events of Season 4 are happening at the same time.
