Chicago Med season 5 episode 3 will arrive next week, and, within this episode, we're going to see new challenges for some of the characters. Here's what we can expect in the upcoming episode, titled "In the Valley of the Shadows."

In the synopsis of Chicago Med season 5 episode 3, Dr. Choi and Dr. Charles need to make a difficult decision since a dying man wants to preserve his life with a controversial scientific method. Meanwhile, Dr. Marcel and April clash over handling a mysterious patient.

Also, Dr. Halstead questions the capabilities of Dr. Manning, who's helping a young boy. However, her treatment suggestions are being challenged by the parents of the patients as they only believe in using holistic remedies. As for Maggie, rumors start to circulate about her.

One of the things that we'll be seeing in Chicago Med season 5 episode 3 is that the doctors are trying to adapt to their new surroundings. However, this wouldn't be that easy for some of them. Dr. Manning, in particular, will do everything that she can and will adjust after her traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Halstead, on the other hand, thinks more about his future and a family. These are just some of the characters that have different things on their minds. In addition, they're trying to move on with everything, especially with what happened to Ava and Connor in the premiere episode.

Within the closing minutes of the premiere, Ava slit her own throat after being confronted with potential evidence that she killed Connor's father. Despite his effort, Connor was unable to save Ava's life and, eventually, he decided that he needs a fresh start somewhere else and heal the wounds of the tragedy.

Even though these characters leave in the series, there's a new face joining the show. In the new episode, we'll learn more about the new character, Dr. Marcel. He has a history of doing his own thing, and he does not usually follow instructions. Beyond that, Dr. Marcel also has a lifestyle outside his job, which isn't conducive to medicine.

Perhaps, there'll be more interesting things about him that will unfold later on this season. Throughout this season, we can expect to see that some of the characters' stories will change and evolve -- hopefully in some interesting ways.

Chicago Med season 5 episode 3 will air on Wednesday, October 9, on NBC.
