Steven Universe Season 6 is officially happening. After months of speculation, the show's course continuation is no longer a theory.
The official announcement just came in at the 2019 New York Comic-Con on Friday. Based on statements, the sixth and final season will serve as the series' epilogue following the events of the recently premiered film.
When Steven Universe ended its Season 5 course, fans and viewers thought that it would already serve as the final run of the show. The film, Steven Universe: The Movie will simply serve as the main conclusion of the overall plot. But, as it happened, the series obtained its new season renewal to conclude the entirety of the show finally.
According to TV Guide, the recently released film takes place two years after the events of Steven Universe Season 5. It features a 16-year-old Steven who tries to resolve the conflicts between the Diamonds of Homeworld and the Crystal Gems of Earth.
Upon succeeding, though, Steven learned that there are more challenges to resolve even after mending all relationships in the movie. This is where the new season will start its storyline.
The show's home network, Cartoon Network, has released a brief synopsis of Steven Universe Season 6. Based on revelations, it seemingly appears that Steven will tie all loose ends following the events of the film. However, he will learn that he needs to finally face his problems, given that new foes will arrive in Beach City.
It has also been revealed that the series will have its new title and opening sequence. Instead of following the format of the usual series installments, Season 6 is titled as Steven Universe Future.
Polygon reiterated that the final season would be a "limited series." And aside from having a new title, the opening sequence will now feature a more "appropriate" intro to the characters.
The new sequence has been released already. And instead of hearing the classic We Are the Crystal Gems theme song, Steven Universe Future will use the film's theme song with lyrics focusing on "Here we are in the future, and it's bright."
While fans are already hyped up for the show's return, Cartoon Network has yet to release an actual date for its premiere. And it may probably take more time before Steven Universe Future arrives on the platform.
Whatever the case, though, avid fans are just happy knowing that Steven and the Gems of the Earth will be back for more adventure, one last time.
