After taking a break from his Bond films like Skyfall and Spectre, Sam Mendes is now back and ready to release his new World War I epic film titled 1917. The prominent director revealed that the main plot of the film is based on the accounts of his grandfather, Alfred Mendes' recollection of World War I.

As reported by Variety1917 is a film that will center on a single day of the lives of two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake. This is why Mendes aimed for the whole film to appear like it's been taken in one long continuous shot.

During the 2019 New York Comic-Con, he shared that it has become a real challenge for everyone to accomplish the goal. He also explained why he wanted to do a single shot for the entirety of the film.

As per his statements, he wanted the viewers to experience every step that the soldiers will be taking in the course of the film. This is only logical given the premise of 1917

According to MEA World Wide, the upcoming epic film will follow Schofield and Blake's movements in the middle of the Third Battle of Ypres. It has been revealed that the two young recruits will need to go behind the "enemy lines" to warn the rest of the battalion that they are heading toward an ambush trap.

If they fail to get the message out, all 1600 men will die, including Blake's brother. So, the film will be filled with intense pressure as they race with time in the entirety of the course.

The cast of 1917 is also another aspect why critics and audiences are seeing the film as a "promising" war film of recent times. Schofield is revealed to be played by George MacKay, who starred in 2016's Captain Fantastic opposite to Viggo Mortensen's character. As for Blake, the character will be played by Game of Throne's star, Dean-Charles Chapman, who is known for his portrayal of Tommen Lannister.

The rest of the main cast also includes Doctor Stange's Benedict Cumberbatch and The King's Speech star, Colin Firth.

Some of the British soldiers will be portrayed by Game of Thrones's Richard Madden, Shazam!'s Mark Strong, and Sherlock's Andrew Scott. Other actors who will play roles in 1917 include Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan, Claire Duburcq, and Daniel Mays.

The premiere date of 1917's limited release is set on Christmas, as told by Deadline. For its worldwide release, the date is set January 10, 2020.
