MOMOLAND's Nancy will soon be working on her acting debut, but it will not be for a Korean drama like most of her fans expect. Instead, she will be working with actor/recording James Reid on a romantic comedy series, which will air on Philippine primetime television.
ABS-CBN and MLD Entertainment announced the news during the recent story conference held for the show entitled The Soulmate Project. The series will be helmed by blockbuster director Antoinette Jadaone, who previously worked with Reid on the worldwide hit series On The Wings of Love, as well as the movie Never Not Love You.
In an interview with MOMOLAND Nancy, the songstress shared that she is excited to work with James Reid. She added that her initial impression of him was that he was nice, super sweet, and awesome. Reid, for his part, admitted that he was starstruck to meet Nancy, who was very popular globally as a member of the KPop group.
On her recent Instagram post, director Antoinette Jadaone shared a teaser of The Soulmate Project, which will revolve around a society in which citizens will have their partners handpicked by the government in the spate of brokenhearted individuals who have given up on love.
MOMOLAND Nancy and James Reid are expected to play the lead characters who will be forced together by the government but will eventually realize that they are falling in love with each other. Fans have expressed excitement over the partnership and have started ship names for James and Nancy. However, the actor posted on Twitter that he does not want to be shipped with Nancy because he is already a part of the love team Jadine with his reel and real-life girlfriend, Nadine Lustre.
Nancy's television series with James is part of the deal that MLD Entertainment inked with local network ABS-CBN wherein MOMOLAND will appear in a travel show to boost local tourism.
Among KPop girl groups, MOMOLAND enjoys a strong following in the Philippines owing to their breakout hits Boom Boom and Baam. Nancy, in particular, is well known among Filipino fans because of her pretty face and charisma that is quite similar to another local celebrity Liza Soberano.
MOMOLAND was recently returned to the Philippines for the Good Friends in Manila concert. The group performed their new songs Show Me, I'm So Hot, Falling U, and Holiday, which were part of their comeback album last March, ABS-CBN reported.
