SuperM, recently, made their triumphant Hollywood with a grand showcase show in front of Capitol Records on October 5, heralding their bid to conquer the international stage as a super idol group. While majority of fans applauded their performance, there were also some who were disappointed over their lipsynching.
Over the weekend, NCT's YouTube channel released a video of SuperM's first live performance of Jopping for the debut showcase, and it was interesting to note some of the fans' reactions in the comment section.
While the majority cheered for the flawless performance of SuperM members before their live audience, there were those who were disappointed over the fact that the members lipsynched for their first performance.
Many supporters were quick to quell the issue and defended the members by saying that lipsynching to ensure a smooth performance was acceptable given the complicated choreography that the members had to do for Jopping. SuperM fans even likened the dance choreography to a high impact cardio exercise, which would have been impossible to sing live to.
SuperM fans also expressed pride at the accomplishment of Taemin, Baekhyun, Kai, Mark, Taeyong, Lucas, and Ten in coming together despite being members of different KPop groups. The chemistry between the members became one of their main strengths in their first outing.
In previous videos leading to the launch, Baekhyun was credited by SuperM for making members feel at ease with each other. This was also the reason he was unanimously chosen as the leader of the newly formed group.
It was originally SHINEE's Taemin, the most senior member of the group, who requested that Baekhyun take on the role of SuperM leader to which Kai, Baekhyun's fellow EXO member, agreed. Kai said that, even in EXO, Baekhyun had a lot of influence in the group and took care of other members really well.
As part of their promotions, SM Entertainment and Capitol Records also shared a video of the preparations involved in SuperM's launching, All Kpop reported.
The five-minute video released by SM Entertainment showed a behind the scenes look at as SuperM members Taemin, Baekhyun, Kai, Mark, Taeyong, Lucas, and Ten prepared for countless photoshoots, dance practices, the filming of their music video and subsequent prep for the showcase.
The clip showed the hard work and dedication of SuperM members in devoting hours to perfect their choreography as well as the effort of the production in delivering a world-class level MV for SuperM's debut single "Jopping."
SuperM is expected to share more stories about their upcoming activities when they appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 9.
