More complex stories and ultimate answers are expected when Dark Season 3 returns next year. Additionally, other characters will have more screen time this season than ever before.
Complicated storylines are what make fans follow Dark since its debut in 2017. More of these are expected when Netflix's first German original series will return for its third and final season.
To start with, the appearance of older Martha (Lisa Vicari) in Season 2 finale revealed that there are multiple dimensions out there. It could also mean that some of the ill-fated characters in the past could be saved or still alive in the other dimension.
In the finale of the second season, Adam (Dietrich Hollinderbäumer), who is also the older Jonas, killed Martha. However, she was also seen arriving from a different dimension and told Jonas (Andreas Pietschmann) that she is not who he thinks she is. When Jonas asked her what time she is from, Martha replied: "The question isn't from what time, but from what world."
"Dark" showrunner Jantje Friese previously teased in, an interview with IndieWire, that, if viewers are paying attention closely, they would know that there are a lot of things in Season 1 that gave out hints on what is about to go down in the final season. She also revealed that the attention in Season 3 would also shift onto other key characters. For instance, she said fans would see more of grown Ulrich in Season 3.
Many of the series regular characters are also expected to return for Dark Season 3. Viewers would watch more of teen and older Jonas, Martha, Katharina, and Noah.
The mysteries in the other storylines are also expected to be resolved in the final chapter. Fans would finally know what happened to Peter (Stephan Kampwirth) and Elisabeth Doppler (Carlotta von Falkenhayn) when they got out of the bunker or whether or not Katharina was able to return to 1986 to find her son, Mikkel (Daan Lennard Liebrenz).
Meanwhile, the cast and crew for the third and final season of Dark are currently filming in Germany. It is expected to finish this fall.
Netflix has yet to announce when the third season will be released. The German TV series hasn't established a pattern yet when it comes to premiere dates. Season 1 was released in December 2017 while its second season dropped in June 2019.
If Dark Season 3 release date will be based on the events in the story, it could probably premiere in June 2020. Netflix might drop the new season on June 27, 2020, which is the same day as the last cycle and the apocalypse in the story.
