BIGBANG proved that even on hiatus, they still have a strong influence in the music scene. The KPop idol group made history on Spotify when BANG BANG BANG reached 100 million streams on the music platform.
According to a report by All Kpop, BIGBANG's hit song BANG BANG BANG became the third song by a KPop boy group to hit the 100 million stream milestone. They are also the first idol group that is not from third generation idols to make the accomplishment.
It was earlier reported that fellow YG artists reached 100 million streams for Love Scenario in June, while BTS has a couple of songs that reached 100 million streams as well.
However, BIGBANG is the only one among the three groups that is currently on hiatus, with three remaining members still serving the military. BIGBANG's T.O.P completed his mandatory enlistment only last July while G-Dragon is set to be released from military service on October 26, 2019. Taeyang will be the next to be discharged on November 10, while Daesung will complete his duties by December 13.
Even with the strong competition with next-generation idol groups, BIGBANG continues to make its mark in the KPop industry with the solid support of its VIP fandom. Unfortunately, the group may have to deal with the aftermath of youngest member Seungri's alleged involvement in prostitution and illegal gambling charges once the group reunites later this year.
While BIGBANG's maknae Seungri has already announced his retirement from the entertainment industry amid the public scandal, it is still expected that BIGBANG's leader G-Dragon will have to issue a statement on the matter upon his release. It can be recalled that, amid BIG BANG T.O.P's marijuana scandal in 2017, G-Dragon apologized to fans on behalf of the group and promised to do better.
G-Dragon's discharge from the military also signifies a ray of hope for YG Entertainment, which is now suffering from a lack of leadership after CEO Yang Hyun Suk stepped down to save the company from negative publicity, a report said.
It can be recalled that the YG Entertainment founder was also accused along with Seungri for involvement in illegal activities and for covering up potential drug scandals affecting YG Entertainment artists.
As a result of his resignation from his post, YG is reportedly reeling from a lack of direction as the former CEO was touted as the visionary for all YG affairs.
