As fans remember the day Dexter was first aired on Showtime on October 1, 2006, the idea about the series renewal for another season has been brought back to life. Unfortunately, it appears that there won't be Dexter Season 9 in Showtime, Netflix, or any other network anytime soon.

Dexter fans have reasons not to lose hope that someday the Miami Metro PD's blood spatter pattern analysis will return since he never actually died when the series ended in 2013. Fans may recall that in Season 8 finale, it was revealed that Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) faked his death. He did not die in a boating accident but instead ended up leaving in a lumber company in Oregon under a new identity.

This makes it even easier for Showtime could bring the character back to life for another season or a reboot. Hall himself has said, in the past, that he open to the idea of portraying the character again at the right time.

"I don't think it's quite time. But it's a conversation that continues at its own pace," he previously told Entertainment Weekly.

The continued interest of TV viewers to the series has created rumors and speculations about Dexter Season 9. For instance, in early 2018, a poster that purported promote the ninth season of the series went viral. The material claimed Dexter Season 9 will be co-produced by Netflix and Showtime. It was later on exposed as fake, and Showtime told IGN that there is no truth about the poster.

Then, another report emerged that the show's producers are capitalizing on the renewed buzz about the series because of the fake poster. They are, allegedly, scrambling to come up with ideas about Dexter Season 9 that they can pitch to Showtime.

One of the ideas that were, allegedly, brought up is a prequel series in which younger Dexter will the center of the story. This is not new to avid fans as flashbacks on Dexter's childhood have been heavily featured throughout the eight-year run of the show. But, still, it is interesting to see in-depth how Dexter's adoptive father, Harry Morgan, honed him into to be a vigilante.

Since it looks like Dexter Season 9 is far from reality, fans who are patiently waiting for his return could Hall in other shows for the time being. He was, recently, featured in Netflix's In the Shadow of the Moon.

The movie was released on the streaming site on September 27. Just a fair warning, Hall played the role of a detective here, who hunts an elusive serial killer and not the other way around.

He is also set to appear in the new movie The Report, which is scheduled to be released in cinemas on November 15, 2019. The American docudrama film focuses on former United States Senate investigator Daniel J. Jones and the Senate Intelligence Committee as they investigate the use of torture by the CIA following the September 11 attacks.

Hall will also appear in the upcoming series, Shadowplay, alongside True Detective actor Taylor Kitsch. It is a 16-episode drama thriller series that centers on the story of American cop Max McLaughlin (Kitsch), who arrives in Berlin in the summer of 1946 to help create a police force in the aftermath of the war.
