Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, decided to fire a loyal aide who served her for seven years, after she and Prince William parted ways with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, respectively. Friends of Sophie Agnew told the press that her role was made redundant despite making sacrifices for Duchess Kate.
One of her friends apparently told Daily Mail that Agnew learned she no longer has a job in the Cambridge household when she returned from her honeymoon with husband Stuart Hill, an insurance director. Agnew, an art history graduate of St. Andrews, was in charge of managing Duchess Kate's personal assistants.
Agnew was part of the royal entourage in their tours abroad, including the 2014 trip to Australia and New Zealand. She was also photographed carrying the duchess' Longchamp bag and Prince William's cipher from the airport tarmac during their trips to India and Bhutan in 2016.
A senior aide at Kensington Palace, apparently, confirmed that Agnew has left her job. The source said that her role was made redundant following the separation of the Cambridge and Sussex households and there won't be a replacement for her.
Agnew's friend said that everyone was shocked by the unexpected decision to cut off Duchess Kate's loyal aide. It appeared as though the Cambridges had to do extreme cost-cutting after the royal households' separation with Agnew as one of the victims.
The loyal staff would be the second most prominent royal aide to be cut from the Cambridge's employ after getting married. In 2017, Duchess Kate's private secretary, Rebecca Deacon, also vacated her position.
In early 2018, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan moved out of Kensington Palace where they used to be neighbors with Prince William and Duchess Kate. They currently live in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor and have also set up their own foundation separate from the Cambridges. Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's household and offices are also now under Buckingham Palace.
Prince William and Duchess Kate also lost one of their most distinguished staff members, Natalie Campbell, to the Sussexes because of the division. Campbell, who used to be with The Royal Foundation, is now the director of the Sussex Royal charity organization.
Sources said that Campbell, an award-winning social entrepreneur, allegedly bonded with Duchess Meghan. As much as her insights and vision will help the Sussexes, she was considered a great loss for the Cambridges.
