Manchester United is poised to clash with a healthier Liverpool club on October 20 following confirmation that two key players will suit up against the Red Devils. The goalkeeper is set to reclaim his post on Sunday and resuming play at the same time is Egyptian Mohamed Salah.
Becker, who was out for nine weeks, suffered a calf injury while Salah hurt his ankle. The Telegraph reported that the Brazil international will be given the medical clearance to return more than two months after his last game against Norwich City.
"Brazil's number one will be declared fit ahead of the Old Trafford fixture, providing he completes another full week of training as is expected," according to the report.
The publication said Becker used the international break to step up on his rehab and training "and is now deemed ready for his first team comeback."
Liverpool will be giving back to Becker the responsibilities carried out at the interim by Spaniard Adrian San Miguel, who observers said had exceeded expectations in filling up for the club's influential keeper.
However, Becker keeping watch on the goal again for Liverpool is a welcome development for team manager Jurgen Klopp, who relied heavily on the Brazilian for the club's improved defense tactics since joining up in 2018.
In battling United again, Klopp can again tap Salah following reports that the forward is expected to be fit when Liverpool visit the Old Trafford on Sunday. The Evening Standard said the Egyptian is scheduled to train again this week as he has no international duties.
It remains unknown, though, if Salah is able to play without pain versus the Red Devils. He was last seen limping out of the field, and the cause of it turned out to be a damaged ankle.
Liverpool having both Becker and Salah in healthy form is seen to bolster the club's standing at the Premier League further. A victory at Old Trafford will make it win number 18 within the circuit. Also, toppling the Reds will allow Liverpool to continue ruling the league.
Heading into the Sunday match, Liverpool enjoys an eight-point advantage over the nearest rival.
On the part of Manchester, the showdown with Liverpool is anticipated following the rumors that a loss at home will seal the fate of Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian is said to be in danger of losing his if United again crumbles on Sunday, but club officials have already indicated that they remain supportive of the embattled team manager.
Solskjaer can at least take comfort in the fact that Liverpool seemed unlucky when playing at Old Trafford. The Telegraph said Liverpool only managed to snatch a single win at United's home since 2014, which should give a hint to Solskjaer that luck is on his side.
