China said in a white paper on Monday that it will continue to help improve the world's food security measures by effectively cooperating with concerned countries who share the country's goal of fighting hunger.

According to China Daily, the State Council Information Office said in its white paper titled "Food Security in China" that it will implement further diversification of food import sources to also ensure the country's food supply.

China is considered as one of the world's largest food suppliers. The country vowed to continue supporting the increasing demand for various food and consumer groups.

Head of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, Zhang Wufeng, said the world's second-largest economy only has supplied almost 20 percent of the world's total population.

While Zhang noted that the government and its food sources will continue to improve the country's overall security, it will also enhance cooperation with international groups and entities in efforts to open up the local food market for other countries to explore.

China is part of the World Trade Organization but it is also participating in the search for new cooperation models that will provide high-quality food supplies to the world market. The white paper noted that the main goal of providing safe and high-standard food is to eradicate poverty and hunger around the world.

As part of its effort in resolving world hunger issues, China has assisted in carrying out almost 500 agricultural assistance programs to help African citizens resolve their food shortage issues.

The country is recognized as one of the key players in the world's overall grain supply. According to Xinhua, Deputy Head of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, Huang Wei, said China has adequate grain reserves should there be emergency situations.

Grains are high in demand in many countries around the world and China is confident it can meet both domestic and international demand should there be a global shortage. The numbers support the country's confidence in this regard.

China processes around 1.38 million tons of agricultural grains daily under 5,704 emergency grain processing plants. There are also 48,831 emergency supply enterprises that produce 1.82 million tons to ensure sufficient supply for the market.

Aside from upholding food security, the white paper also noted that China will pursue its grandiose target of becoming a food industry power through a guarantee system that will help ease food shortage fears around the world.

Finally, the white paper reaffirmed the country's commitment to providing adequate assistance for developing countries that still need guidance and support in establishing their own food security systems.
