Princess Diana was a well-loved public figure and the most popular member of the royal family when she was alive. However, she reportedly ditched people she no longer wanted to be friends with. The behavior is similar to what her sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, and the daughter-in-law she has never met, Meghan Markle, have done with their friends.
According to Richard Jay on the Daily Mail, Princess Diana had a habit of changing mobile numbers without telling her friends. It was her way of letting people know that they were no longer wanted in her life.
Apparently, Prince Harry did the same thing to some of the people who have known him the longest. One friend told the news outlet that the Duke of Sussex used to stay over at his house many times over the years. One day, however, his calls were no longer answered and there was no explanation given but silence.
Meghan Markle was also reported to have dropped friends when she started dating Prince Harry. Lizzie Cundy, a British TV presenter, told Daily Express she and the duchess met at a charity event in 2013 and kept in touch with each other. But, months after the public found out she was seeing Prince Harry, Cundy said that Meghan stopped exchanging text messages with her because she was a member of the press.
The Duchess of Sussex, apparently, just keeps a "small group of friends" in her contact list. She lost touch with the rest of the people she's cordial with because she is, apparently, finding it hard to trust the circle around her.
Prince William also cut ties with some friends before his marriage to Kate Middleton. According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, he even tested his circle by coming up with a story about himself to see who would squeal to the press. His plan worked and he ostracized the female friend who revealed the details.
This news comes amid growing concerns of the rift between Prince Harry and Prince William, with Meghan Markle at the center of the mix. When Princess Diana was still alive, she told her sons they have to look out for each other.
However, as Prince Harry revealed in the documentary interview Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, he and his brother have not been spending time together anymore. The statement seemed to have confirmed speculations of the brothers' distance as Prince William apparently did not support Prince Harry's choice to marry Meghan. So, if the brothers don't have each other's support, who among their friends can they lean on during these trying times?
