For former Reds keeper Edwin Van Der Sar, his current role as Ajax CEO remains a career priority that a rumored move back at Old Trafford is not even inviting. The Dutch said he has unfinished business in Amsterdam that a return to Manchester United is not on his immediate considerations.
Van Der Sar was reacting to speculations that he was shortlisted by Ed Woodward, executive vice-chairman for United, and possibly will be appointed as Director of Football. The former goalkeeper will serve as the connection between United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the team board, Metro reported.
While Woodward is thought to have already spoken with Rio Ferdinand, Darren Fletcher, and Patrice Evra, it looked like that the United executive is taking his sweet time in picking the right choice, the report added.
Of all the candidates mentioned, only Evra issued a confirmation that talks between him and United are underway. However, the Frenchman has made clear that a future role with the Red Devils is still undetermined.
For his part, Van Der Sar brushed aside the rumors that he has been lined for an executive job at United following the semifinal's entry of Ajax to the Champions League in the past season. He has made a good impression, but Van Der Sar insisted leaving the Dutch club is not on his mind.
"I am trying out and experiencing a lot of different things here. I'm not finished, I've got unfinished business here. At the moment I am focused on Ajax," the Mirror reported Van Der Sar as saying.
The Ajax CEO added he is still in the process of building his confidence and strengthening his good qualities, and he is looking at finding greater success while handling the club's business operations.
"I have said before. I want to make a success at Ajax," Van Der Sar said.
However, the Dutchman has not entirely ruled out the possibility of moving to better things, Manchester Evening News said in a related report. He admitted that it would have been a different story had Ajax made it the finals of the Champions League.
Until he reaches that goal, a change of setting is unlikely to be in the immediate to-do list, according to Van Der Sar.
The ex-goalkeeper for the Red Devils is only one of the personalities mentioned to fill up the planned revamp of the United board, which Woodward is implementing in conjunction with the rebuilding of the Reds roster under team manager Solskjaer.
The changes in United are seen to be happening in light of the club's dismal showing so far in the current season, fueling speculations that without marked improvements in the games ahead, Solskjaer could be sacked along with the backroom staff.
