Meghan Markle's father and half-sister, Thomas and Samantha Markle, have been talking to the press in the past about their strained relationship with the Duchess of Sussex. Following the controversy brought on by the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, it seems Meghan's family has been surprisingly quiet amid the noise.

Royal observers on Quora are wondering if the Markle family has had a change of heart; thus, they have not been giving interviews to bash their royal relatives. If it's not about a change of heart, were the Markles legally advised not to talk to the press or did the royals pay off the family to stop talking?

One commenter, Antonio Baldascini, said that paying off the Markles might be a mistake for the royals because the money will never be enough. Another commenter said that they could be holding off hurling insulting statements against Meghan because they might never ever get the chance to meet baby Archie.

In September, Thomas told The Sun that he feels grief and disappointment over not being able to see his grandson. He said that "their PR people" have been ghosting him out of his daughter's life.

Despite this, Thomas said that he still hopes Meghan Markle would reach out to him one day. He wants to have a picture of Archie to be framed next to a photo of Meghan on his wall.

It was Thomas' letter from Meghan before she got married in 2018 that's at the center of a legal battle Prince Harry and his wife launched against the news outlet Mail on Sunday and its parent company, Associated Newspapers. Meghan Markle's father admitted he released "parts" of his daughter's letter to the press after friends of the duchess defended her against Thomas in a People interview.

Thomas said that the People article vilified him so to defend himself as well. He gave the letter to Mail on Sunday to show that Meghan Markle's wrote words that weren't loving and healing. He said that he doesn't recognize the person that wrote those words.

Prince Harry cited in a statement that the letter was published to be misleading and to "mask the lies" perpetuated by the news outlet for years. The Sussex royals also said that the publication was in violation of the Data Privacy Act.

To this day, Meghan Markle's father and half-sister have never met her husband after Thomas staged a conspiracy with the paparazzi days before her wedding. Samantha, on the other hand, was supposed to publish an autobiography titled "A Tale of Two Sisters" with details about Meghan. It's unclear, however, if the book is done or is ready for release.
