Queen Elizabeth, reportedly, wants Prince William and Kate Middleton to be the next monarch instead of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles. Her Majesty has been publicly making her choice known by outwardly grooming the Cambridge couple to succeed in her throne, according to royal observers.

In April, Queen Elizabeth honored Kate Middleton on her eighth wedding anniversary to Prince William by appointing her the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO). Two months later, Prince William's wife proudly represented this honor during a state dinner with the U.S. President and impressed the audience in attendance for her "majestic" presence.

Sources told Now to Love that Kate showed elegance and poise befitting of a monarch-in-waiting. Thus, speculations sparked that Prince William and Kate Middleton could "leapfrog" Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, who are the heir apparent to the throne.

Insiders also noted that the public favor Prince William and Kate over Prince Charles and Camilla. Thus, the Prince of Wales feels like he could be eclipsed from the throne because of what his mother has been doing.

In 2017, YouGov ran a poll, which revealed that the people were more inclined to support the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge if they ascend the throne instead of Prince Charles. Sixty-three percent of the responders also picked Kate Middleton to be the next Queen of England against the Duchess of Cornwall's eight percent vote.

However, Queen Elizabeth does not have any power to rock the line of succession. It has been written as law since the time of her ancestors that the next in line should be the heir apparent. If she willed to change it, however, the process will require an Act of Parliament involving Britain and its Commonwealth countries like Australia and Canada.

The speculations that Queen Elizabeth is grooming the Cambridges run contrary to her actual statement in Parliament, though. In 2018, Queen Elizabeth publicly addressed government leaders that she hopes they will offer stability and support to the Prince of Wales when he becomes the next head of the Commonwealth. Naturally, whoever is the next head of the Commonwealth is the King of England.

In reality, Her Majesty has been giving Prince Charles more duties in the royal family as he got older. Prince Charles also, recently, escorted his mother when she was at the opening of the Parliament for 2019 and even before that in 2013.
