Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was beaming with pride when he confirmed the Reds have new first-team additions in youngsters James Garner and Brandon Williams. Both players had displayed grace under pressure when the Red Devils defeated the Partizan Belgrade Thursday last week.
It was Williams, however, who impressed Solskjaer the most. The Norwegian said the young full-back is destined to be a top player. Williams, in fact, was named by the Reds chief as the "Man of the Match."
Together with Garner, Williams is lined up to start when United tussles with Norwich next, essentially the confirmation that the young Reds are now part of the club first-team, Metro reported.
It's noteworthy that the pair rose to the occasion in the absence of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Luke Shaw, who again are expected to miss the Norwich match. Solskjaer though, is convinced he will see the same level of commitment from Garner and Williams in the upcoming Premier League fixtures.
"If they can perform like they did in front of such an intimidating crowd then they won't have any problems going anywhere in England. It was as loud and as hostile as it gets - but it didn't faze them one bit," Solskjaer was reported as saying.
Heading to Carrow Road, the United boss reported that the Reds will see Victor Lindelof, David De Gea, Marcus Rashford, and Daniel James starting alongside the latest members of the first-team.
"I really believe that we have gained two Premier League players in Belgrade - and I won't have any doubts about playing them at Norwich," the Norwegian stated.
The confidence given to the youngsters was not without basis. Garner, for instance, has been observed by Solskjaer as constantly growing into the pitch and getting better every game. It's no wonder the midfielder has been attracting love from ardent Reds fans.
As for Williams, the United boss has only superlatives for the rising teen.
"He's been fantastic in the few games he's played, the boy has no fear, he's as brave as a lion and he got us the win," the Manchester Evening News reported Solskjaer as saying.
It helped too that Williams always take on the pitch with the right attitude, the Reds manager added.
While the Red Devils remain in the bottom of the Premier League standing, Solskjaer said the club's performance has been picking up since the draw with Liverpool. The defense, in particular, is now being applied with the needed grit.
However, the United boss allowed that there is still room for improvements like "we need to get more intensity in our pressing."
