From the Golden State Warriors, Andre Iguodala was shipped to the Memphis Grizzlies, but he is unlikely to suit up for the latter anytime soon. Iguodala has opted to sit out for now in the ongoing NBA season while Memphis negotiates for a deal that will work for all parties concerned.
In a report, CBS Sports said there are two possible scenarios for the swingman's eventual exit from the Grizzlies. One is for him to be traded, which supposedly is what the Memphis front office is doing now - looking for trade partners that will provide an acceptable deal.
Iguodala can also be bought out of his contract, carried over from the GSW to the Grizzlies, and in which case he would be at liberty to choose which team to join next.
In such a case, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP can choose between two LA teams, namely the Clippers and the Lakers, per the same report, and citing the claims issued recently by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Now any of the two clubs taking in talent like Iguodala will be a winner - for all. On Iguodala's part, playing for any of the teams mentioned will give him another shot at the NBA Finals and the likelihood of winning a championship ring or two before thinking about retirement.
On the part of the Clippers, Iguodala is the answer to what the team is lacking despite the presence of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. If the former Warriors will join the team, what he will bring is further depth and a higher chance of winning more games.
The Clippers will then inch closer to capturing a Finals slot, which is a territory that is not new to Iguodala.
As for the Lakers, Iguodala is not the ultimate answer to the team's issues, but him coming over will surely push the team to perform better. There are talks that Demarcus Cousins will eventually join the Purple & Gold by mid-season. It should be interesting to see how things will work out for the Lakers with Iguodala, Cousins, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, all working together.
Still, the big question is: Where really Iggy is heading to?
NBC Sports said if the presence of Rob Pelinka on the Lakers as general manager is anything to go by, then the team might be Iguodala's preferred destination. After all, Pelinka and the player once worked together with the former acting as an agent for the latter.
Also, Jackie MacMullan of ESPN is seemingly convinced Iguodala is taking the road that leads him to Staples Center, according to Fadeaway World.
"He's going to the Lakers. I've had four different players tell me that. Every player I talk to tells me that," MacMullan was reported as saying, adding this has a high chance of happening provided Iguodala is waived by the Grizzlies.
