The Mayon Volcano in the Philippines, known as the beautiful disaster, is one of the most extraordinary creations in the world. With a shape of an almost perfect cone, mountaineers and hikers can't help but be in awe of its amazing beauty.

Located in the heart of the Bicol Region, the Mayon Volcano is so loved by a lot of people that it can spark tourism even at its most dangerous state spewing melted rocks and lava. As a matter of fact, on Jan. 30, 2018, while the volcano was erupting and locals were fleeing for their lives, thousands are coming towards the place to witness such a stunning scene.

But, did you know that it is not just the Mayon Volcano that the Bicol Region is proud of? The city is blessed with a lot of natural resources and spots, every tourist should visit and experience.

WHALE SHARK INTERACTION

Whale sharks, also regarded as the ocean's gentle giants, usually visit the seas of the Bicol Region during November and June. One of the places that offer an almost assured sighting is Donsol, a humble town of Sorsogon City. Experts say whale sharks are attracted to this place as it can provide them the perfect feeding ground during this season.

Despite their size, whale sharks don't have the heart to hurt humans and would even love to swim along with them. If you have plans to visit their sanctuary, just make sure never to harass or touch them while swimming as it could frighten them and push them to leave.

BACACAY ALBAY, BLACK BEACH RESORTS

Because of Albay's Mayon Volcano, some of its beaches have unique, striking black color. This black volcanic sand has a lot of benefits in the skin. The sand can be used as a detox, purifier, de-stressor, and skin protector.

Bacacay, one of the municipalities in Albay, features a long stretch of beaches, which features this unique sand color. According to Yannah The Wanderer's blog, there are only a few of these beaches in the world. So, why not grab the opportunity and visit one?

Aside from these two, there are still an array of activities you can do and places to visit while you are in Bicol. If you love nature tripping, Quitinday Hills and ATV Tour to Mount Mayon is for you. But if you're more of an ocean-lover and has the passion to surf, beaches in Bagasbas and Gubat will surely suit you best.
