Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are speculated to be renouncing their royal titles. Following their revelation that they are having a hard time dealing with the negative press, reports came to light that they would be giving up their privileged life.
But, what would Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lose by renouncing royalty? It isn't just their titles that would be stripped off them, according to royal fans discussing on Quora. Apparently, the Sussex royals would also lose their royal residence, Frogmore Cottage, and the access to precious jewelry, furniture, art and antiques.
Since the royals are partly supported by taxpayer's money, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would no longer have security detail if they renounce their title. Giving up these free privileges and prestige accorded to them, however, would mean gaining their privacy and life in obscurity.
Quora royal observers, however, do not think that Prince Harry and Meghan would give up their current life despite various speculations of a renouncement. They have been working royals and have shown immense interest in expanding and supporting the causes of the monarch.
However, Prince Harry once considered leaving the royal family, according to the Evening Standard. This happened before he met Meghan Markle as he was contemplating civilian life and living a quiet life.
His love and respect for Queen Elizabeth made him rethink his plan. Her Majesty talked Prince Harry out of giving up his royal duty as the sixth in line to the throne next to Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Only one royal in recent history has given up his life in favor of his relationship with his American wife and that would be Prince Harry's great uncle, King Edward VIII. He served the crown for less than a year before abdicating and relinquishing his throne to Queen Elizabeth's father, King George VI.
When he quit, Edward lived abroad with his wife, Wallis Simpson, and received an allowance from the royal family. He came back to the U.K. to mend his relationship with his kin but Queen Elizabeth's mother blamed him partly causing stress on her husband, which led to his early death.
Prince Harry won't likely rule England as king unlike Edward but giving up his royal title would mean the Sussexes would live like a civilian and forfeit their allowance from the crown. Meghan, however, won't be completely broke as she had a lucrative career as a TV star in America before marrying the prince and he has an alleged inheritance valued at £30 million.
