Before she was given the Duchess of Cambridge title, Kate Middleton was dubbed "Waity Katie" by the press. It was a jab at her years of dating Prince William, who took nearly 10 years to propose to his future queen.

Apparently, people around the couple were growing quite concerned that Prince William has not made the move to ask Kate's hand in marriage even if they have been together for years. According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, even Kate Middleton's mom, Carole Middleton, was worried that Prince William would never marry his daughter.

Kate was nearing 30 years old at that time and there was still no ring on her finger. She and Prince William met and got on while they were in college. They broke up a couple of times before making a secret pact in 2007. To this day, only Prince William and Kate Middleton knows what this secret pact entailed.

According to Nicholl, the press' nickname for Kate Middleton bothered her and she thought it was cruel. Despite the insulting nickname, Kate eventually had the last laugh bolstered by this secret pact and because she was engaged in 2010.

However, one fan on Quora believes that Kate wasn't bothered by people making fun of her waiting long years for Prince William to propose. Kimberly Klaus conjured a scenario in her head when the proposal finally happened, with Kate Middleton telling her future husband that if "Waity Kaite" bothered her, then, she would have broken up with him a long time ago.

In an interview for ITV, Prince William and Kate Middleton revealed some details about how the proposal went. It happened in Kenya during a romantic holiday. Prince William said he didn't plan for it far in advance but he wanted this to be comfortable for both of them.

He also revealed that he proposed using the engagement ring of his mother, Princess Diana's, engagement ring. He wanted his mom to still be part of this special day. His choice of ring was the right one to put on her finger.

In April 2011, Prince William and Kate exchanged their vows in front of billions of people, not just the people of the U.K. Their wedding was televised and celebrated all over the world.

Now, after eight years of marriage, Prince William and Kate Middleton have three adorable kids: Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1. Royal fans think that they could have a fourth child by 2020.
