Queen Elizabeth is a fashion and style maverick in her very own regal way. She dresses up appropriately as expected of a royal, but she gives her own spin to her choices of clothes and accessories.

An unearthed photo of Queen Elizabeth, which was posted on Instagram, shows the royal wearing a simple light camel-colored one-piece dress which she matched with a string of pearls, a brooch, black heels and her signature black bag. Netizens can't help but praise the Queen for looking so elegant in this ensemble as she looked like she's going about her busy day at work.

Curiously though, Queen Elizabeth was not wearing a matching fornicator to go with this dress. She also had no gloves on, which Her Majesty usually wears to protect herself from infectious germs when shaking hands with numerous people.

According to Angela Kelly, who is Queen Elizabeth's senior dresser since 2002, the royal likes to wear colorful styles and matching hats, not just as a fashion statement. The big headgears are actually a decoy to ward off cheating bettors during the annual Royal Ascot races.

Queen Elizabeth also wears brightly colored clothes, including neons, so that she can be easily spotted in the crowd. Her hat is also the one fashion statement she cannot do without.

Kelly also shared in her new authorized book, "The Other Side of the Coin, the Queen, the Dressers and the Wardrobe," that Queen Elizabeth loves to do her own makeup every day. The only time a professional makeup artist does her face is if she has to do her annual Christmas speech for her subjects. Marilyn Widdes does the Queen's makeup for this once-a-year event.

The dresser also revealed how she prevented one style mistake that could have been embarrassing for Queen Elizabeth. Her Majesty was going to have a face-to-face meeting with Pope John Paul II several years back, but her private secretaries wanted her to wear a bright pink dress that was not appropriate for the occasion.

Vatican protocols require that guests wear dark clothes when seeing the Pope on official visits, but the royals only wear such a drab color when they are in mourning. Kelly shared that she still planned a few wardrobes for the Queen in case her secretaries would change orders and make this the exception. True enough, at the last minute, Kelly was frantically called on to ready the Queen's black dress and she still looked wonderfully regal in it.
