Camilla Parker-Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, is joining Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for a royal event for the very first time. The royal trio will be at the Field of Remembrance in Westminster Abbey on Thursday, Nov. 7, for one of the programs set for Remembrance Day this coming weekend.
Prince Charles' wife is a patron of the organization that is hosting the annual November event for the veterans of war. Aside from honoring fallen soldiers, the Poppy Factory also helps wounded soldiers find jobs after they return from service.
More Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place on Saturday and Sunday with Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth in attendance. The Prince of Wales has been tasked by his mother to lay the wreath on her behalf while there will be an equerry for his father, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
The service for the soldiers on Sunday, Nov. 10, is also expected to reunite Prince Harry and Meghan with Prince William and Kate Middleton after the airing of Sussex's controversial documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. In it, Prince Harry said that he and his brother haven't been spending time like before because they are on "different paths." Royal observers said that this statement confirmed there is a rift between him and Prince William, as was speculated early this year.
Amid the controversy and challenges that Prince Harry and Meghan face, a source told Vanity Fair that they have an ally in Camilla, their "pillar of support." The source revealed that Prince Charles' wife is fond of Meghan and while she was also surprised by the documentary, like the rest of the royals, Camilla reportedly only wants "everyone to get along and be happy."
The source also confirmed that Camilla is constantly in touch with Prince Harry and Meghan amid rumors that the rest of the royals have been distancing themselves from the Sussex pair. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith said that Camilla Parker-Bowles is in the unique position to advice and guide the couple, especially Prince Harry's wife, who admitted that she is struggling with the media scrutiny and the unfairness of the reports in the tabloids about her life.
Smith said that Camilla was in Meghan Markle's position at one point with the tabloid media hounding her for her affair with Prince Charles. The biographer said that Meghan could learn a lot from the Duchess of Cornwall, especially in cultivating a better relationship with the media.
