EXO's comeback album is expected to have an interesting premise, judging by the release of Kai's teaser images which show him channeling the Joker.
According to a report by All Kpop, EXO-Ls flocked to social media to ask questions about the concept of OBSESSION, EXO's upcoming comeback album, because of Kai's photoshoot.
The teaser showed two concepts, with one set of photos portraying Kai as a post-apocalyptic hero, sporting green hair and an all-black ensemble. In another set of photos, Kai's concept seemed to channel Jared Leto's Joker from The Suicide Squad. With his dark green hair and flamboyant outfit, Kai looked more like a villain with a haunted look on his face.
In the final photo, the two characters were combined for a Good vs Evil concept which made fans excited about the album release on November 27.
As it turned out, SMTOWN released the two teaser images to determine which concept EXO should adopt for their comeback and asked fans to vote for their preferred theme.
Because of the unique teaser, #EXOvsXEXO became a trending topic worldwide as EXO-Ls debated how they wanted the members to appear for their much-anticipated comeback, Soompi reported.
As photos of the other members were released, fans started to formulate their theories about the members' teaser images.
A lot of fans shared theories that the new concept was connected to EXO's debut concept wherein they were introduced as aliens who came to Earth to establish an EXO Planet using their superpowers.
While poring through the images, fans started to develop the theory that Sehun was the hero who will save his hyungs from evil. In contrast to the villainous looks of other members, EXO's maknae looked the most normal in the teaser images.
Fans also posted theories about the rock with the EXO symbols. They noticed that only six out of the nine members' superpowers were lit up.
Some said that this could be a symbolism about members who were were on hiatus. It can be recalled that Xiumin and D.O. started their mandatory enlistment in the Korean military this year. Lay was also unable to join the comeback because of his activities as a solo artist in China.
Fans said that it was still good for SM to represent the other members even though they were unable to participate in the recording and promotion for OBSESSION.
