American Horror Story: 1984 recently concluded, and the FX anthology horror TV series made many fans satisfied with its excellent ending. Series co-creator Ryan Murphy also revealed in an interview the finale made him cry. He also talked about the show's future, hinting that American Horror Story season 10 might be the last.
Speaking with Deadline, Murphy said that the ending of American Horror Story: 1984 is the only AHS ending that made him cry since a father-son thing is always hard for him. He then talked about the future of the FX series, admitting that they want American Horror Story season 10 to be a spectacular one, just in case it's the end for the show.
Murphy revealed that they're working on an idea for season 10 and many will possibly love it since it's all about reuniting fan-favorite actors. They wanted to gather all the previous stars of the show as he believes the upcoming installment might be the last.
The series creator is also reaching out to several people, though he said others haven't reached out to him yet. When asked whether or not Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Jessica Lange are all coming back in American Horror Story season 10, Murphy said its "too soon to tell."
While he believes that the upcoming installment is the end of the road, Murphy also said in the same interview that there are still active discussions regarding the show's future. Hence, there's a possibility another season may come out after season 10, especially since American Horror Story is a franchise that delivers different stories.
Right now, Murphy is keeping the theme of American Horror Story season 10, but he said that the idea of doing something in space is quite challenging for them. He also shared that American Horror Story: 1984 was very hard since it has a lot of night shoots, so doing something in space might be even harder.
When asked if they considered diving into the horror sub-genre of Japanese or South Korean psychological horror in American Horror Story season 10, Murphy replied the heart of the show is always about "Americana". He admitted that it would be hard for them to do something like the mentioned ideas -- though he's still open with the possibility.
The release date of American Horror Story season 10 is yet to be revealed, but CarterMatt noted the new installment may arrive sometime in Fall 2020.
