Was Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, channeling her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, during last Sunday's Remembrance Day service? Some fans of Prince Harry's mom were reportedly not pleased that his wife wore the same look as his mother from the same event several years ago.
According to Daily Star, royal fans were quick to point out that Meghan wore something identical to Princess Diana during the annual ceremony. In the 1990s, Princess Diana also had the same wide-brim hat, round neck dress and wool overcoat as what Meghan wore last Sunday.
Commenters on Twitter did not hold back from criticizing the Duchess of Sussex. One royal fan said that it was creepy for Meghan Markle to follow Princess Diana's outfit as it looked like she was obsessed with her husband's late mom.
Another Princess Diana fan uttered that Meghan must realize she will never replace the People's Princess. The fan said that Prince Harry's wife will never be like his mother no matter how many times she copies Princess Diana's look.
Fans of Meghan, however, defended her from the critics on Twitter. One noted that the former TV star has worn wide-brim hats and wool coats before so the outfit choice was not surprising. Another fan said that it's actually nice to see Meghan, and even her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, emulate their husbands' mother because it's a testament of their love and honor for an iconic family member they have never crossed paths with.
But Meghan Markle has plenty of things in common with the late princess, aside from her fashion sense. According to Style, they are both humanitarians and advocates who have a good heart for souls in need.
Both Meghan and Princess Diana also want to make a difference in the world. While they are known as fashion icons, they do more than look pretty and stylish in public because they have done some hard work to promote their charities.
Meanwhile, designer Stella McCartney became the unlikely target of royal fans after she posted an Instagram entry praising Meghan Markle for her Remembrance Day outfit. Apparently, the wool coat she wore was actually designed by McCartney, who said on social media that she was "honored" to see the duchess wearing her creation.
Royal fans slammed McCartney for the self-promotion when Remembrance Day was all about giving respects to the heroes of war. The designer immediately deleted her post because of the backlash.
