The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker already teased on Rey undergoing training in a mysterious new planet. But how is the girl from Jakku doing her training without Luke Skywalker? The new images from Star Wars Episode 9 might confirm that Rey is going through the same thing that Luke once had to deal with in the original trilogy. Interestingly, her training is fairly similar to that of Luke's in A New Hope.
In A New Hope, Luke Skywalker underwent brief training while he and Obi-Wan Kenobi were on the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewbacca. For some reason, Han happened to have a helmet and training remote on the ship, and Luke used it to practice with his lightsaber. It's still unclear why Han had a training remote on his ship in the first place. Nevertheless, the scene somehow proved that Luke could use the Force, although Han says that the boy was simply lucky.
On the other hand, Rey appears to be operating on both luck and the Force in the new images from Star Wars Episode 9. In one of the photos shared by Entertainment Weekly, Daisy Ridley's character is shown facing off against a training remote. The landscape featured in the background is similar to the scene from the final The Rise of Skywalker trailer where Rey drops a helmet as she runs through the forest. This could mean she is on the new planet solely for training ahead of the final battle against Kylo Ren.
It's an awesome nod to how Luke Skywalker first realized he was connected to the Force, but who could be helping Rey train in Star Wars Episode 9? There is a huge possibility that Luke's sister General Leia Organa is the one helping Rey prepare for the big fight. After all, Leia's only scenes that appear in the Rise of Skywalker trailer seem to be set on the same planet. Amazingly, this could confirm that Leia herself underwent Jedi training before she decided to lead the Resistance against the First Order.
The training scene could be one of the most emotional sequences in Star Wars Episode 9 if it also features General Leia Organa. It has already been confirmed that Leia's unused scenes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens were repurposed for The Rise of Skywalker due to the unfortunate passing of Carrie Fisher. It's going to be a heartwarming part of the film.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on Dec. 20.
