Tahith Chong is not going anywhere when his contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season. At least, that is what the Red Devils believe amid the rumors that the 19-year-old winger might be tempted by the Italian giants Juventus.
Chong remaining at the Old Trafford is seen by United as a near-done deal despite the suggestion that the young Dutchman has yet to inked an extension agreement with the Reds. It was unclear while the teenage winger has been holding out despite the overture from his current team.
According to Metro, "Chong will eventually sign a contract and that the club can point to his integration this term into the first team as a signal of his progress."
If the youngster will agree to stick it out with the Reds, he is expected to receive a weekly salary of £25,000 with promises of bonus and assurance of increased appearances on the pitch.
So far in the term, Chong has made the United squad four times and will be part of the active roster, specifically on the upcoming fixtures for the Europa League, the same reports said, adding United seemed confident of making the youngster stay with the team.
There was a plan too for Chong to be loaned out for the purpose of further sharpening his skills but United will not give the green light until the winger signs up for a long-term deal. This could be implemented as early as January next year, depending on the outcome of talks with Chong's representatives.
For his part, Chong is appreciative of the trust given to him by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He added that Solskjaer is staying true to the strategy of giving playing time to academy prospects and making them part of the first-team when warranted.
"I think, ever since the manager came in, he has given me my debut and others have had theirs too ... It's amazing to see the trust both him and the club are willing to put in youth," the Express quoted the teenager as saying.
Also, Chong brushed aside the speculations that he has made his mind on leaving United in favor of Juventus. He stressed that his mind is set on where he is playing football at the moment.
"I'm still a player of Manchester United and the season is in full swing. My focus is on that. The contract will come naturally. I am now focusing on this season," Chong said, and per the report by The Sport Review.
